Hamilton Travel Guide
Welcome to Hamilton!
Hamilton, also known as Steel Town, is an attractive city with year-round attractions. The city is conveniently located just south of the Greater Toronto Area, off the Queen Elizabeth Highway, which leads travellers to Niagara Falls. In 2001, Hamilton merged with the nearby towns of Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Stoney Creek and Glanbrook, and became the larger, brand new city of Hamilton. With these new additions, Hamilton now offers even more exciting attractions, points of interest and things to do. The former town of Ancaster brings Ontario's Niagara Escarpment to the city, while the former historic town of Dundas offers quiet, tree-lined streets, art galleries and speciality shops. Stoney Creek, Flamborough and Glanbrook bring their small town charm to the city, as well as big attractions such as Flamboro Downs, which features live harness racing and gaming.Hamilton is home to several exciting museums, including the Hamilton Children's Museum, which features great theatrical performances for children of all ages. Nearby, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum has an impressive collection of Canadian military planes in a series of interactive displays and Canadian football fans are sure to be delighted in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, which celebrates Canada's history and presence in the sport. Seasoned art enthusiasts will be impressed by the Art Gallery of Hamilton, which has one of the most comprehensive art collections in Canada, and those who prefer the outdoors will enjoy walking, biking and roller-blading along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. Venturing slightly outside the city limits will lead visitors to a number of wilderness conservation areas, many of which boast picturesque waterfalls.
